WCCSA Adopts Sherbert Herbert: our newest Secretarybird has wings and stamps its feet!!
We are delighted to announce a rather unusual new addition to the Company family: Sherbert Herbert, a Secretarybird, adopted through the Hawk Conservancy Trust.
With a name like Secretarybird, the connection with us as Chartered Secretaries is simply too good to resist as an emblem for our 50th year anniversary.
There is also a very serious purpose: supporting the conservation, research and educational work to protect these officially endangered birds of prey and their habitats.
Secretarybirds are distinctive, elegant and certainly capable of commanding attention and they are one of Africa’s most remarkable birds of prey. They kill their prey by stamping on it! Their famous crest of long feathers has traditionally been likened to the quill pens once carried by clerks and secretaries, hence its central position on our crest.
As part of the premium adoption, WCCSA will have a plaque on Sherbie’s home at the Conservancy. We have a competition planned during our Golden Jubilee year with a prize of two free admission tickets to the Hawk Conservancy Trust – look out for more details in the newsletter before Christmas. We all look forward to following Sherbert Herbert’s progress during the year: he is still only a ‘toddler’.
Sherbie lives at: The Hawk Conservancy Trust, Andover . Please check out the amazing range of raptors and display shows that are on offer to delight visitors: hawk-conservancy.org
