Robert Poyser BMus FTCL ARCO

On Tuesday 5th December, WCCSA members and guests enjoyed a superb private concert at the Oxford and Cambridge Club in Pall Mall, arranged by the Master, Mr Christopher Edge.

Our pianist was Robert Poyser BMus FTCL ARCO, who has been Director of Music at Beverley Minster since March 2009. He combines his busy role at the Minster with teaching piano and organ, performing and accompanying. Since arriving at the Minster. Robert has founded a Girls choir which is now a regular and integral part of the musical life of the Minster and more recently, a Junior choir. Other highlights have included recording six CDs, and appearances on television, film and radio in addition to the usual pattern of worship and an ever-expanding choral repertoire.

As part of the programme on the night, the audience were treated to a performance of ‘Fusion of Chimes’, a piece that was specially commissioned for the Company by PM David Lock during his term of office. The piece was composed to link Beverley and London – the two places where it was initially performed. The Beverley element in the piece was made by using the Minster’s hour chimes, composed by a previous Victorian Organist of the Minster John Camidge, and the Westminster Chimes added for the London element. This resulted in an exiting piece suitable for both piano and organ performances.

After the concert members were able to  catch up over a glass of wine.
