Tuesday evening saw another great professional networking event organised by the Worshipful Company of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (WCCSA) at Guildhall.

At this event, Sharon Constançon, Liveryman and Court Assistant, interviewed David Jackson, former Company Secretary of BP. During this interview, David gave his views on governance matters as well as sharing experiences from his illustrious career. It was a very insightful discussion, living up to its billing.

Some lessons gleaned include his view that Governance is what Boards do and thus is not compliance. David also believes that the roles of Company Secretary and General Counsel should be split.

As a final word, he advised that Company Secretaries be optimistic and not be put off by barriers.
